I have spent my entire academic career burying my head inside textbooks studying and doing homework to please myself and my family. I have spent my entire academic career wondering where my life was going to take me and worrying if I would ever figure out what I wanted to do.
Finally, I discovered my career path.
Armed with valuable and useful communications skills, the education I received from the University of Maryland campus prepared me well for my career ahead. There is one thing no college can truly prepare a student for: real, adult life. I began my internship experience at Van Eperen, which guided my transition from the classroom to the office and helped me cement the path I wanted to take in life. Working at an agency provides the opportunity to work with an array of clients and the experience of walking into work knowing you will do something different than the day before.
Now that college is over, there are no more exams, no more pop quizzes, no more homework. In exchange, life hands you a 40-hour work week, adult responsibilities and no more summer vacation. So what’s the upshot of graduating? It’s waking up for work and not thinking, “Ugh. I’m getting up for work.” I love what I do. I go to work every day looking forward to what that day has in store. Plus, I get to work with amazing co-workers and clients, who made my transition as a full-time employee seamless.
Moral of the story: find something you love and go for it. As the great Confucius once said, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
