Raising Awareness of Community Colleges

Challenge

During the 2008 recession, the Maryland Association of Community Colleges (MACC) experienced statewide budget cuts and needed support. They enlisted our media team to increase awareness about capacity challenges and enrollment growth.

Strategy

We developed a media relations campaign focused on op-eds from community college presidents, student success stories and Student Advocacy Day. We also wrote an e-newsletter, articles for a new MACC blog and took over day-to-day social media posting responsibilities.

Result

  • Helped restore state revenue previously lost during the recession.
  • 10 media hits for annual Student Advocacy Day, including The Baltimore Sun and The Washington Post.
  • Approximately a 400 percent increase in organic Facebook fans over 6 months.
